“It’s springtime - that time of year again – it’s both the beginning of
spring and the beginning of award nomination season.
Our office facilitates three awards for outstanding students, two relating
to work with religious life and one for community activism. Each of these
awards will be presented at the Celebration of University Leadership on
April 29th, 2008. The descriptions for the awards are below. This year,
nominations can be made completely online at www.faith.tcu.edu starting
Thursday, March 20th. The deadline to nominate this year is
Friday, April 4th at 5pm. Please take a moment for you or
your group to nominate at least one or two people!”
The Sheri Mooney Scholarship Award was established in 2002 by the generosity of Bruce and Dorothy Mooney in memory of Sheri Mooney and her commitment to personal-lifestyle evangelism. The scholarship recognizes and honors TCU students who constantly puts Christ first in their lives. This award come with a $500 scholarship applied to the next academic year and so is only open to returning students.

The Religious Life Leadership Award focuses on a leader in one of TCU's religious communities who provides
leadership, mentoring and support to their faith community. This award
looks for leaders who have a deep commitment to their faith, have an
understanding of their own tradition and that tradition’s relationship to
the world. The ideal candidate models strong servant leadership, helps
others deepen their faith, and engages in service to the local and global
community.
The third award is the is the Footsteps Award for
Social Justice Leadership. This award is presented to one who has
worked to better their community and their world through social activism,
grassroots organizing, community involvement. The award looks for leaders
who while at TCU have accomplished this through approaches that follow the
thoughtful footsteps of other great leaders for social change such as Rev.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Mahatma Gandhi, Dorothy Day, Oscar Romero and
countless others.
