Religious Literacy & Education

“Wait…you mean Joan of Arc wasn’t Noah’s wife?” Now more than ever, religious literacy, cross-cultural education, and understanding are necessary for us to be effective global citizens. The sheer number of different religious traditions and perspectives from humanity makes it imperative that we all take an active role in acknowledging, accepting, and transforming with, within, and by one another. Religious literacy is a key way to achieve understanding and peace. Knowing what and why you believe is as, if not more, important as knowing that you believe.

Here at TCU, the office of Religious and Spiritual Life hosts programs, workshops, and student groups based around finding common understanding and building lasting relationships.

Interfaith Community

IFC meets bi- weekly on Wednesdays at 5 pm to explore life across faith lines. As a an organization IFC promotes inter-religious dialogue and community exploration. As a group of students, some events include Roundtable Discussions, Faith and Film Series, Service and Study Opportunities, Dialogue workshops, retreats, and sacred site visits. Inter-religious Dialogue Workshop

Come learn the tools of the trade! Twice a semester we get together over lunch and learn how to create and sustain an effective, transforming dialogue about religion. Best of all, we get to experience dialogue first hand!

Sacred Centers (Formerly World in our Backyard)

Field Trip! Take an afternoon for reflection, learning, and something out of the ordinary. Two times a semester we take a trip around the Metroplex to various sacred sites such as Buddhist temples, Mosques, Hindu temples, Greek Orthodox Churches. This program helps us see the lived reality of religion in people's lives and gives us space to reflect on our own beliefs.

Interfaith Service and Study trip

Religious and Spiritual Life is proud to offer this alternative Spring Break immersion experience. Typically 10-15 students travel together for a week-long adventure of community service, dialogue, reflection, sight-seeing, and a great time! Spring 2008 took us to Chicago, Il and it was a blast! Time: Spring Break 2009, Location: TBA.
